Here is a new video from us made especially for those who have purchases a retail business that is already running our POS software. This video is one of many new videos we have produced in house for our customers.
Gift shops are unique businesses. They offer a carefully selected range of products, supported with personal service and displayed in a locally appropriate way. Gift shop owners take pride in being different, offering an experience unique compared to department stores and national groups.
It is these local gift shops offering personally selected products for local shoppers on which Tower Systems focuses its services in the gift shop management space.
The Tower gift shop software has been developed specifically for locally owned gift shops. It is specialist software, packed with tools aimed to serve unique needs of these specialist retail businesses.
It is this commitment to specialisation that helps Tower Systems to be in such a strong position with gift shops, serving hundreds of businesses in this specialist retail space. These retailers help us further develop the software to provide even deeper connections with the specialist requirements of gift and homewares businesses.
In addition to providing excellent gift shop software, Tower Systems also provides sound advice to help gift and homewares retailers improve the in-store experience.
One example of gift software management advice is this advice on shop floor product rotation:
Retailers using our POS software can track the success of superheroes in their retail businesses. They can do this through a range of views, providing insights beyond what is common in POS software.
The insights can help retailers undertake more finely tuned marketing.
Spiderman, for example, can appeal to a young kid discovering their first superhero as much as he can appeal to a baby-boomer reliving memories of their first Spiderman comic back in the day.
These different customers engage with their fan driven interests in different ways. Thanks to a clever approach to viewing data, retailers are able to treat both interests differently and the same as may be needed from time to time.
This is another smart approach to inventory management from the smart software development team at Tower Systems.
Here are some of the features gift shop owners love about our Gift Shop Software in addition to the facilities you would expect from good POS software.
Tower Systems has been represented at the Hong Kong Gift & Premium Fair this week meeting with Australian gift suppliers and Australian gift retailers. This has been an excellent opportunity to spot trends and explore fresh opportunities for our gift retail partners back in Australia.
While we are not gift products wholesalers, we do work closely with them on a range of fronts and participating in this fair again this year has been a helpful experience in developing stronger relationships with suppliers for our customers.
The fair had more than 4,000 businesses in booths and it attracted over 100,000 retailers visiting these booths.
Serving hundreds of retailers using our Gift Shop Software, Tower Systems innovates through its software and the retailer / supplier relationships it supports. This is why being at this fair in Hong Kong is important for any software company which wants to ensure its offers are relevant to today’s gift shop.
Retailers using the Tower Systems specialist gift shop POS software have the ability to print a gift exchange receipt detailing the items purchased but not the price paid.
This facility has been in our software for years. It was developed with retailers offering gift exchange services. The receipt printed was recently enhanced to connect with quality gift purchases.
This gift / exchange receipt facility is another point of difference for Tower in several of our retail channels it is am important pert of the Tower AdvantageTM.
The Tower Systems gift Shop software has been designed and developed here in Australia for Australian gift and homewares shops. It serves local needs, works with local suppliers and is more finely tuned to your business needs.
Here are 10 ways this software can help your business:
While some retailers gravitate to stories of doom and gloom, others are chase and enjoy success large and small.
Through our work with our POS software we get to meet with plenty of retailers and look at many businesses.
We are certain that success is not an accident.
Success is planned for and chased. It is the goal reflected in every business decision. It comes from refusing to let the business run you.
We’d like to share three real-world stories with you.
The small shop turning over $380,000 a year and growing 28%
Talking with a gift shop owner about their 28% increase in sales in the financial year just ended.
Yes, you read right, a 28% lift in sales in the 2012/13 year. This is on the back of a 17% increase the year before. This is a business that is more than ten years old.
This is no accident. They planned for it by carefully looking at their business data and shedding products that were not working. They adjusted opening hours too as they discovered business later in the day that they had not realised was there. This knowledge opened them to opportunities for last minute shoppers.
The owner of the business decided to chase success because the turnover was barely enough to cover rent, wages and the loan taken out to fund the business. It was grow or bust.
They planned for success by using their business data. The first year – 17% up from a low turnover base – was encouraging. The 28% increase this past financial year proves value of paying attention to business data.
Sales data guided them as to the suppliers of the best to focus on. One employee was eased out of the business for failing to achieve minimum sales targets.
The owner spent more time on the shop floor selling to achieve minimum margin dollars per sale rather than just chatting with shoppers.
The result shows what can happen when you focus on being a retailer, the owner said to me with a huge smile.
A gift shop reengineers and saves itself
Another gift shop we have been working with was in trouble. Shops nearby were closing and the small shopping strip had a dark feeling. For a while they were sucked into the cloud of doom and gloom.
Checking their data we saw that several special interest items sold well and provided an above-average margin. They used this knowledge as the basis for small expansion.
Over six months they increased their range of the special interest items and they connected with community groups to share knowledge.
Over six months sales grew, not into double-digit growth but they were happy to have at least stopped the decline.
In the second six months sales grew further. Now they were into double digit growth territory. Shoppers happy with their specialisation were telling others. Word of mouth was driving extra traffic.
That was a year ago. Today, this business is very different. People travel for up to two hours to see their range. The average sale value has more than doubled, margins are up 15% and customer traffic is up 25%. Combine these three and you can see why the owner is very happy.
They did not plan to become a product specialist. The survival of their business demanded it.
How a product category drove sales and profit
This gift shop owner came to us because they were in trouble. Sales were falling. Together, we took an in-depth look at their data.
The category performing best in terms of return on investment and return on floor-space was plush, teddy bears and some soft toys. That can’t be right, said the owner, it’s stuck in the back of the shop.
Data does not lie. It revealed that their small selection of plush was selling well despite the owner and the employees not being all that interested in it.
Fast forward six months and this business has turned around. They are now a plush shop at the front with other gifts. Sales are up 65% and climbing. They have increased their margin too – because they have products others nearby don’t have.
Turning this business around was easy as the data offered the guide. The changes took a week to complete and initially required only a $5,000 capital investment in additional stock.
Own your success
Small and independent retail businesses can achieve growth in any economic situation.
People don’t stop shopping in tough times – they just change what they buy.
By taking a fresh look at business data gift shop owners can change focus, attract new shoppers and get existing shoppers spending more.
We’re happy to help.
Thanks to flexible and smart gift tag facilities, the Tower Systems gift shop software helps retailers to present product tags of quality and professionalism which demonstrate a product care shoppers love. Developed in consultation with many retailers, these tags are loved.
The highly customisable tags offered through the Tower Systems software offer retailers more control and flexibility in how they represent what they sell.
A cheap price label or price tag can turn a shopper off a product whereas a professional and personal tag can make a product far more appealing.
This is another Tower AdvantageTM from Tower Systems.
The Tower Systems Gift Shop Software has been a hit over the weekend at the Reed Gift Fair in Sydney. Our stand has been busy with plenty of prospects as well as visits from many existing customers.

The ability to make packs / hampers / package deals has been in the Tower systems software for many years.

Retailers love it because it maintains excellent stock control throughout. Retail staff love it because it makes selling easy. Shoppers love it because of the ease with which they can usually get a deal.

Gift shops using the Tower Systems gift shop software will benefit from the time experts from our software company spent at the Atlanta Gift Fair at the large AmericaSmart facility., This largest gift Fair in the US is an extraordinary experience for gift retailers. Our takeaways include new relationships with the parent businesses of several Australian gift shops suppliers. This will helps us better serve our gift shop software customers as we help them more effectively and valuably connect with their suppliers.
There is nothing like getting to the source of a relationship to understand it and leverage it for all stakeholders.
This gift fair in Atlanta also helped us spot trends that we can sever better through our software – before they hit Australian shores.
As the only Australian POS software company represented at Atlanta, Tower is positioned to help gift retailers in a more effective and exclusive way in 2015.
For commercial reasons we will not share any comprehensive outcomes here as these are best deployed to our customers for their and our commercial advantage.
Gift and homewares retailers using the Point of Sale software from Tower Systems are able to locate product boxes easily thanks to facilities embedded in the software. This ease of box location improves the speed of handling the transaction, reduces stress for staff and provides shoppers with a better experience. The result is a better outcome all round.
The software makes it easy for recording information against an item that some software does not record. Tower has built in flexibility from use of its software in its own businesses and thanks to engaged customers providing helpful feedback.
It’s the small things that make for good POS software.
Thanks to flexible discounting options within our POS software, Tower Systems helps retailers to offer discounts that matter at different times of the year – like Student Discounts at back to school and back to uni time.
With appropriate rules used in the software, retailers are able to track discounts driven for their own interest or for supplier rebate purposes – and for the benefit of local schools that partner with the retail business to help drive traffic to the store.
Providing retail employees with certainty through which they are able to transact business and handle opportunities such as student discounts is a valuable feature of the Tower software. It helps small and independent retailers to offer benefits you;d typically see in bigger businesses.
The smart POS software from tower Systems is helping more and more retailers to sell bulk items broken into singles, single items scaled up into bulk, hampers, packs, gift packs and many mixtures within these opportunities.
Jewellers use our pack facilities to sell two or three items in a set as well as singles – with ease.
Confectionery shops and chocolate shops use our software to sell bulk packs and singles easily with complete and easily managed inventory control.
Gift shops use these facilities to sell Christmas hampers.
Garden centres use these facilities to sell plants as singles and more packaged together.
It’s fast and easy to handle.

We have tested and loaded the following stock files to the downloads area of our website for retailers using our POS software.
Our customers can use these files with confidence.
The Tower Systems gift shop software was a terrific success at the Auckland Gift Fair earlier this week at the ASB Showgrounds. In addition to showing off new gift shop software, we also introduced people to our expanding knowledge base, training videos and gift shop business support service through which we help gift shops grow.
This event has been another terrific trade show for Tower Systems.
Collectors come in all shapes and sizes. They are important customers to many types of retail businesses. Some businesses identify them as collectors and others do not. Some bring in product on a regular basis that builds collections over time and to a calendar while others serve special orders driven by customer requests.
Regardless of the types of collectors served and how you may serve them, Tower Systems has facilities within its Point of Sale software to serve the needs of retailers serving collectors. From personal barcodes on products to tracking orders, to tracking collection to managing product shelf life, the collectible product facilities are used extensively within the Tower Systems retail business user community.
The facilities serving the collectibles area is another example of the value of specialist software developed ion close association with retailers in the space.
