The Australian newsagent channel was created by publishers to serve their needs back in the 1880s. With many price and operational aspects of our model still controlled by publishers it is appropriate that the Federal Government include newsagents in the conversation about changes to the cross media laws.

If a more open media ownership landscape is to be allowed, newsagents should lose some of the non competitive yet non negotiable aspects of their operational model as negotiated back in 1999 under the auspices of the ACCC and the Federal Government.
