Call traffic almost doubled yesterday as a result of the power blackouts which hit all of Victoria. Most calls were hardware related, old computers which were stressed by the blackouts, hubs and routers which needed to be reset and other peripheral issues. Even though resolution was usually easy, people called to be sure they were not going to cause damage. While a few sustained permanent hardware damage due to spikes, most got through okay.

The best contribution we can make in this situation is to provide calm advice and get our customers up and running as quickly as possible. The biggest challenge is to diffuse the stress some of our users feel when their business has been blacked out – the skills required are beyond those usually needed for IT support.
