We are in Auckland next week meeting with customers and potential customers in New Zealand. We are regularly in NZ thanks to a strong user community of small business retailers using our software.
Our NZ customers have easy access to on-site training as well as support, through a toll free number provided to all.
Handling all New Zealand Inland Revenue reporting and tax requirements, our NZ POS software is terrific for retailers in the various specialty niches in which we serve. It has been thus for many years, since we first entered the NZ marketplace.
While we are in Auckland next week we will meet with business partners who provide local hardware sales and support, offering small business retailers the comfort they want for the maximum uptime.
Retail in New Zealand is different to Australia in several interesting ways. While we will not detail them here for competitive reasons, the differences are valuable to us as in meeting them we make our software more valuable in Australia and other countries in which we work.
We are grateful to our NZ customers for their engagement and support. They help make us a better POS software company.
Tower Systems is hosting an open even in Auckland in two weeks showing off its POS software to specialist retailers in the local retail marketplaces. The company has shared details with prospects in New Zealand as well as with existing customers – to provide opportunities for retailers to connect with the company. Click here to book a time.
Here’s an introductory video outlining the NZ opportunity:
Independent retail businesses often seek local shopper support. This Lismore easily achieved if these businesses themselves act locally and love locally. Here are some of the many act local suggestions we have developed over years of supporting local small and independent retail businesses:
Support local community groups through raising awareness and funds.
Use your retail space to attract locals on local issues.
Leverage your communication channels to support local issues and groups.
Offer practical help to local school.
Be engaged in local representation on councils and committees.
Preference hiring local people.
Seek out local suppliers.
Offer local training opportunities to local school students.
If appropriate to your business, seek out local artists.
Participate in local markets.
Welcome local groups to raise funds from out the front of your shop.
Get your business name on local sports team clothing.
Learn and tell local stories.
We have many other suggestions to help independent local retailers to better connect with their local community … helping our customers way beyond our software.
Tower Systems serves close to 3,000 retailers using our smart POS software.
The Tower Systems POS software / Xero accounting link is being embraced by more retailers.
Using the Xero link in our own retail businesses and having had it vetted and approved by our own Financial Controller, we can speak from experience about the value of the Xero link to a busy independent retail business.
This link cuts mistakes, eliminates workload and results in more timely and accurate accounting information.
Tower backs the link with training and live support. We also back it with access to our in-house accounting experts who can provide insights from their own use of the back end.
It’s our use of our software and Xero as retailers ourselves that really sets us apart.
We have seen excellent results from receipt based marketing this week where a retailer using our POS software reported double-digit sales growth across almost all categories and the only change in their business for most of these categories in the last six months was the implementation of our receipt-based discount vouchers.
While they call them something else – Shopper Rewards – internally in our software they are called discount vouchers for ease of reference. Bet they are much more than discount vouchers!
15% of customers are engaging with the vouchers and it is these customers who are driving the revenue growth for the business.
We can show small and independent retailers how they can grow their businesses by engaging with this unique and successful business marketing and management initiative. In our own retail experience we know that it’s money in the bank.
The keys to success that we regularly see are:
The across the counter pitch. This comes down to staff training.
Simple text on the voucher. Users of the software have complete control over this.
Good value on the voucher. Users of our software have compete control over this.
Good business rules for redemption to drive sales. Users of the software have complete control over this.
The success of many small business retailers with our offering is encouraging and exciting. We love it!
Many small business retailers using the POS software from Tower Systems actively engage in suggesting enhancements for the software and many of these suggestions make their way into the software.
Retailers regularly thank Tower for the opportunity to publicly make suggestions and for the transparency of voting by and feedback from others about the suggested enhancements. Indeed, the level of transparency Tower Systems has offered in this area for years now is rare. Some claim user engagement but it is hard to find another software company living the transparency claim like Tower.
The real test of the exclusive Software Ideas facility from tower Systems is the enhancements that make their way into the software. Hundreds of enhancements including new facilities, large and small, exist in the software today thanks to user engagement in making suggestions and voting on these suggestions. It is proving to be a valuable process for tower Systems and its retail business customers.
It is a measure of the company’s confidence that the facility is promoted on its website home page and that the list can be accessed by anyone including competitors.
Software Ideas is managed by a senior member of the software development management team within the company and the overall Tower leadership team makes final decisions about ideas it embraces. All ideas receive feedback from the company.
The latest issue of respected NZ retail magazine NZRetail has a multi-page article on a new Avanti Plus bike shop that is using our software at the heart of their business. This editorial coverage is timely as it coincides with growth in our customer base on New zealand with more retailers in our specialist retail niches including bike shops, gift shops and others partnering with us to use our software and grow their businesses. By targeting specialist retail niches we are serving the needs of these retailers in a highly specialist way that better helps their businesses leverage their unique offering. Our software genuinely helps them do this and the NZRetail article speaks to that specialisation.
Our Tower Systems software is to feature in the next issue of NZRetail magazine in a feature on one of our client locations.
We are thrilled to be part of another retail success story. On hearing of the feature we booked an ad to run in the same issue of NZRetail – to help further raise awareness of our Point of Sale software for New Zealand retailers.
One reason NZRetail magazine is compelling is the quality of its editorial. Trade magazines often contain thinly veiled advertorial. NZRetail is different because its raison d’être is to create value for the over 5500 members of the New Zealand Retailers Association (NZRA) whose main objective is to ‘promote excellence in retailing’.
Tower Systems is busy installing new systems in New Zealand as more retailers embrace our Point of Sale software. With more than one hundred retailers having partnered with our software in NZ we have a strong presence already. The latest installations further strengthen this and add to our experiences of working with NZ retailers.
Retail in New Zealand is interesting with varying conditions being experienced up and down the country. Through our software we are able to help retailers tailor their use to serve local needs. For example, we have a retailer partnering with a local school as a fund raising activity thanks to our integrated gift and loyalty offering. In another situation we have a retailer using our discount vouchers to raise funds for a community group.
Connecting with the local community has proven to be important for retailers in New Zealand. Our software makes this easy to achieve.
To further enhance service to retailers using our POS software in New Zealand, Tower Systems has launched a POS software New Zealand website offering services, insights and supports for our NZ customers.
This new website is part of a services of expansions in web presence for the company delivered over the last year.
Rather than announcing what we plan, we prefer to announce after we have delivered.
We are excited to be putting the finishing touches to a website dedicated to our presence in New Zealand. This new and separate website will provide access to a range of facilities and provide a home base around which our growing New Zealand customer base can gather.
Developed in hour by our web developer, the NZ site is in the final stages of testing prior to commercial release.
We serve retailers in New Zealand in the gift, homewares, jeweller, bike retailer and garden centre retail channels.

Two of our team were in New Zealand last week to meet with a supplier to a channel of users of our POS Software. We discussed opportunities for a deeper two-way IT relationship between the supplier and their retailers. The meetings included a selection of their management team as well as some of their retailers.
Over the course of two days we also got to meet with some of our other customers in the Auckland area.
It is good to be able to draw on experiences from multiple retail channels and from a variety of geographic situations. All of the insights gained go into the melting post as we plot the course for our Point of Sale software and the after sales service we provide.
We expect to be back in Auckland for a user meeting as part of our next round of user meetings – details to be announced later this week.
