Attracting visitors to your online store is crucial for growth, but it doesn’t always require a big marketing budget. It can feel daunting though, time consuming, tough to execute.
Here at Tower Systems, we have spent years helping retailers connect their POS software to their websites. We have seen what works and what doesn’t. Back when we owned shops we did this work ourselves. All of this has helped us curate this advice.
Here are five effective, free strategies you can start using today to boost your traffic.
1. Be specific with product names. “Blue Dress” doesn’t help anyone find you. When you name your products in your POS and on your site, be specific. Use the brand name, the colour, the material, and the style. Think “Acme Brand Floral Midi Dress with Puff Sleeves.”
The trick: Ask yourself, “What would a customer type into Google to find this?” Use those exact words in your product name.
- Change: What you use today can change tomorrow. Evolve as you see shopper engagement evolve. It makes sense.
2. Write product descriptions that actually describe the product. Don’t just list specs; tell a story. Think abut the customer, who they are, what they would / could be thinking of re the product. Good descriptions improve your SEO ranking and help convert browsers into buyers. Instead of saying “5-megapixel camera,” say “Capture crisp, vibrant memories with this 5-megapixel camera.”
The trick: Anticipate questions your customers might ask and answer them right there in the description.
3. Blog regularly (and be useful). Google and other search engines love fresh content. Aim to publish a post at least once or twice a week – we suggest more often You don’t need to write a novel, be helpful. Answer common customer questions or highlight how a product solves a problem. She your point of difference in writing about your business and the products you sell.
The trick: You can use AI to help draft ideas, but always edit it to sound like you. Your unique expertise is what builds trust. Use your words and your context. remember, these posts have to sell you and your business.
4. Put a face to the name Your “About Us” page is often the second most visited page on your site. Use it to build trust. clearly state who you are, what you stand for, and where you are located.
The trick: Use real photos of yourself and your staff. People like buying from people, not faceless corporations. Don’t be afraid. be authentic. It really does matter.
5. Keep it fresh. Online is changing, always. reflect this in your content be it from the SHopify theme through to your blog topics. keep your website and the content it offers fresh.
The bottom line This approach takes time, but the payoff is worth it. By getting your data right in your software and on your site, you create direct pathways for customers to find exactly what they are looking for.
If you do just one thing though: blog regularly with human written content that shines a light on your specialty and your localness. This helps your website rank well.
