Helping retailers handle a fuel surcharge in their POS software

H

Last week we announced support for a fuel levy facility in our POS software.

Supporting a fuel levy.
Due to the recent spike in fuel prices, we have received a significant number of requests to introduce a fuel levy feature within the software.

In response, we are pleased to confirm that this is currently in development and will be released soon. We say soon because, like with any change, we need to thoroughly test, and adjust as needed.

We have also expanded on this concept to provide greater flexibility. The new module will allow you to create multiple surcharge types for a variety of scenarios, including fuel levies, public holiday surcharges, after-hours fees, and more. This ensures your business can easily adapt to different cost conditions as needed.

Surcharges can be configured as either a flat rate or as a percentage of the total sale, giving you full control over how they are applied.

We could see that the rising cost of fuel was a challenge for businesses, especially those in rural and regional areas where delivery to customers is a core service. Talking. with retailers, they preferred to not have to adjust prices. They wanted a way to show the additional cost they were facing as a cost they would pass on to customers. The support for adding a fuel levy facility in the software came from this.

We fast-track developed it and commenced a through test cycle to ensure its usefulness and stability across the broad functionality of our POS software.

The way we have developed the handling of the levy in our POS software is such that it will serve other purposes for our small business retail customers. This enhances flexibility for other marketplaces in situations we note, like: public holiday surcharges, after-hours fees, and more, situations where a retailer wants to call our a cost unique to the circumstances in which they find themselves.

As noted, this new facility is already in the final stages of a rigorous testing cycle and will be available to all Tower Systems customers in the next software update.

Because we understand that every community has different expectations, we’ve ensured the levy is clearly itemised on customer receipts, providing the transparency your shoppers value while protecting your bottom line.

By choosing a surcharge model over a flat price increase, you can remain competitive on your shelf pricing while professionally managing the volatile costs of doing business in 2026.

Curing “Prompt Inertia”: How Tower Systems Makes AI Work for Every Retailer

C

We’ve all heard about the wonders of AI, but for many busy small business owners, there is a massive wall standing in the way: Prompt Inertia. It’s that feeling of opening a blank ChatGPT window, staring at the flashing cursor, and having no idea what to type to get a useful result. You know AI could help your business, but you don’t have the time to become a “Prompt Engineer.”

At Tower Systems, we believe you shouldn’t have to. We’ve embedded powerful AI tools directly into our POS software, so the heavy lifting—the “prompting”—is already done for you.

We started our own AI enabled POS software journey back in 2022 with our first release early 2023. Our motivation was the frustrations small business retailers expressed around AI. Prompt Inertia is real. We set out to help, and since then we have evolved the extent of the help we provide in our Aussie made and supported Ai enabled POS software.

1. AI That Writes for You (No Prompting Required)

Whether it’s a product description for your website or a blog post to drive traffic, our software handles the creative work.

  • Web Descriptions: Instead of staring at a blank screen, you click “Generate AI.” The system looks at your stock item details and writes a professional, SEO-friendly description instantly.

  • Instant Blog Posts: Want to promote a new game or gift item? Our “Stock Item Blog Post” tool can draft a full article about a specific product in seconds. You don’t need to explain the product to the AI; the POS software provides the context for you.

2. The “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know” Button

Reports are the lifeblood of retail, but nobody enjoys wading through 30 pages of spreadsheets. We’ve introduced a game-changing AI Analysis feature for over 200 of our reports.

  • Instant Insights: Run a sales report, click the “AI Analysis” button, and the software sends the data to a model like Claude, Gemini, or ChatGPT.

  • Executive Summaries: Within moments, you get a plain-English breakdown of your top-performing departments, negative trends you might have missed (like a sudden drop in a specific category), and even behavioral analysis of your customers’ purchasing patterns.

  • Actionable Advice: The AI doesn’t just give you numbers; it offers “low-hanging fruit” recommendations on which categories to invest in next.

3. Effortless Invoice Imports

Manual data entry is a relic of the past. Our AI-powered invoice import tool turns any supplier PDF into an electronic file.

  • Smart Mapping: It doesn’t matter how the supplier lays out their invoice. The AI finds the barcodes, descriptions, and cost prices for you.

  • Time Savings: Retailers using this tool report saving up to 3 to 5 hours of labor per week, time they can now spend with their families or growing their business.

4. Your Choice of “Brain”

We don’t lock you into one system. Our software is integrated with the world’s leading AI providers, including OpenAI (ChatGPT), Google Gemini, and Anthropic (Claude). You can choose the model that gives you the best results for your specific niche.

Ready to stop “prompting” and start “doing”?

AI shouldn’t be another chore on your to-do list. With Tower Systems, it’s a built-in assistant that understands your local small retail business data and helps you make smarter decisions in seconds.

See it in action:

Hey Local Small Business Retailers: Stop Double-Handling: How to Link Your Shop and Website for Effortless Sales

H

Elevating your retail business from a local storefront tone that reaches customer far far away doesn’t have to be a technical headache. For independent retailers in Australia and New Zealand, Tower Systems offers a locally based specialised web development service that bridges the gap between your physical shop and the global online marketplace.

We have been helping local small business indie retailers for years in this space.

Here is why Tower Systems is a partner top consider for small business web development.

1. Seamless POS Integration: Your “Single Source of Truth”

The biggest challenge for many retailers is “double handling”, updating a price on the shelf and then having to remember to do it again on the website.

With a Tower Systems website, your POS software owns your data. When you arrive stock, change a price, or add a new product in-store, your website updates automatically, thanks to the Tower Retailer POS software.

  • Live Inventory: Avoid the embarrassment of “out of stock” online orders. If you sell the last item over the counter, it’s instantly removed from your webstore.

  • Automatic Image Sync: Images attached to your stock items in the POS flow directly to your website.

2. Australian-Based, Expert Development

Tower Systems’ web development team is based right here in Australia. It’s local, not outsourced.

  • Fixed-Price Projects: No hidden “hourly” surprises. You get a clear, upfront quote for a professional Shopify or BigCommerce site.

  • Local Communication: You deal with real people who understand the Australian retail landscape and the specific nuances of your local community.

3. Built for Specialty Retail

  • Haberdashery businesses, fabric shops, sewing shops

4. AI-Powered Content Creation

Writing product descriptions for hundreds of items can take weeks. Tower Systems has integrated cutting-edge AI (including ChatGPT,  Google Gemini and Anthropic) directly into their platform. You can now generate professional, SEO-friendly product descriptions and blog posts in seconds, helping your site rank higher on Google with minimal effort.

Helping suppliers to small business retailers provide invoices that can be easily read by POS software

H

Efficiently managing stock starts with how retailers receive data from their suppliers. When a supplier provides a structured invoice, our Tower Systems POS software can use AI to import those details directly, accurately, efficiently. This removes the need for manual data entry, saving you time and reducing errors.

Traditional EDI tools are not needed. The AI tools in our software have been tested with many hundreds of invoices. We have retailers saving 3, 4 and 5 hours a week. That’s a bottom-line benefit they love!

Manual data entry is a time-consuming part of managing a retail business. It facilitates mistakes, which can be expensive.

By adopting an automated import process, you eliminate the risk of human error that occurs when typing in costs, quantities, and barcodes. This ensures your inventory records remain accurate and your margins are protected. Most importantly, it frees you from the back office, allowing you to focus more of your time on the shop floor with your customers.

To help suppliers provide the best possible files for small business retailers Tower Systems has put together some simple best practice guidelines you can share with them. We have shared this with our customers, with many suppliers, and now we share it here for any to read and act on, for the benefit of small business retailers.

Document structure and consistency

For the software to identify data correctly, invoices must be structured with a consistent layout and clear column headings. Suppliers should include their company name, address, ABN, invoice number, date and any relevant order numbers.

Necessary product details

Each product listed on the invoice should include the following specific information:

  • Product code
  • Barcode
  • Description
  • Unit cost price
  • Quantity supplied
  • GST amount
  • Total price

The invoice should also clearly state the total amount due and any applicable freight costs.

Tax and formatting

It is acceptable for GST to appear as a single line item before the final total if all items on the invoice are GST inclusive.

Regarding file types, the software can process Word documents, PDFs or Excel spreadsheets. For the most reliable results, we recommend using the Arial font.

Support and testing

If a supplier is unsure about their formatting, our team is available to help. They can send a sample invoice to support@towersystems.com.au. We will test the file to ensure it imports smoothly into your system.

Maximising Cashflow: A Strategic Guide for Local Independent Retailers

M

In the world of independent retail, cashflow is the pulse of the business. It always has been, and always will be. Today, however, with cost of living top of mind for many, managing cashflow in business, in retail. is particularly important.

While being busy is often mistaken for success, true health is measured by the cash you have available when you need it. For many local retailers, managing this flow is a daily challenge that requires discipline, evidence-based decision-making, and a willingness to act ruthlessly when necessary.

The Power of Inventory Efficiency

Your inventory is essentially cash sitting on a shelf. The longer a product remains in your shop, the more it costs you in opportunity and space. To improve cashflow, you must master your stock-turn.

  • Eliminate Dead Stock: Identify items that have not sold in six months or more. This stock is worthless while sitting still; discount it ruthlessly and convert it back into cash immediately.
  • Just-in-Time Ordering: Avoid holding large amounts of back-room stock. Rely on suppliers to deliver just in time to free up your capital for other needs. We have tools in our POS software designed to help with this.
  • Data-Driven Buying: Use your Point-of-Sale (POS) software to buy based on sales evidence rather than gut feel or emotion. Only restock what has proven to sell.

Strategic Margin and Pricing Management

Small adjustments to your pricing model can lead to a compound improvement in your financial position.

  • Review Prices Regularly: Small increases of 1% or 2% are often unnoticed by shoppers but contribute significantly to the bottom line.
  • Capture Settlement Discounts: If your cash position allows, pay suppliers early to access settlement discounts. This is a simple way to increase your margin without changing the retail price.
  • Bundle for Value: Combine related products into unique bundles. This makes price comparison difficult for shoppers and often allows you to achieve a higher margin for the combined solution.

Reducing Operational Leaks

Cashflow isn’t just about what comes in; it’s about stopping what should not go out.

  • Trim the Roster: Labour is typically your highest cost after stock and rent. Ensure every rostered hour is productive and generating a return. Trimming even one hour of inefficient labour can be equivalent to thousands of dollars in sales. Cutting staff in retail never feels good. If you can. use smart tech, like our POS software, to reduce labour costs, the benefits can be quickly felt in your bank account and that’s good for business.
  • Mitigate Theft: Employee and shopper theft can cost a retailer between 3% and 5% of their turnover. Implementing strict procedures, such as scanning every item and closing the cash drawer after every sale, protects your cash. Our POS software has theft mitigation tools that can help you discover theft sooner, and save money.
  • Audit Overheads: Review every expense, from insurance to utilities, at least annually. If a spend cannot be measured for its value to the business, stop it.

Leveraging Technology for 24/7 Revenue

In a modern retail environment, a physical shopfront is only one part of the equation.

The 24/7 Storefront: An online presence allows you to capture sales while your physical doors are closed. More than half of online purchases often occur during these after-hours periods.

Automate Processes: Use technology to eliminate manual paperwork and double data entry. Automated end-of-shift balancing and integrated EFTPOS save time and reduce costly human errors.

The Daily Payday Mindset

Improving cashflow requires a shift in mindset. We see the value unmaking every decision through the lens of profitability. This means being responsible for your own data and not delegating the understanding of your financial health to others.

Before you conclude each day, ask yourself: What have I done today to make this business more valuable? Success in retail is not a destination; it is the result of continual, small, disciplined steps toward efficiency and growth.

Why Regular Blogging is the Engine for Independent Retail Success

W

The most common question independent retailers ask about their websites is how to generate more traffic. Often, the answer they receive is one they feel they do not have the time to implement. However, website traffic is driven by one primary factor: consistent, high-quality content. For a local shop, this means more than just listing products. It requires regular communication through blogging to help customers and search engines find the business.

A few days ago we hosted a free workshop on e-commerce for local small business retail. Here’;s a video of that session: https://youtu.be/E2GlTLAmeuQ

The Power of Content Marketing

In today’s modern retail landscape, a blog serves as a news feed for your business, a tool to provide updated information about your products and expertise. When you publish a post about a specific item, you create a new pathway for customers to find you. This is particularly effective when you focus on niche products or items that are difficult to find elsewhere.

Data from successful independent websites shows that consistent blogging can lead to significant results without spending a single cent on traditional advertising. By providing detailed descriptions and helpful information, businesses can often secure top positions in search results. This visibility is essential for reaching customers beyond your immediate local area.

Leveraging AI for Efficiency

Many retailers feel time-poor and struggle to find the hours needed to write. Modern tools like Google Gemini, Claude, or ChatGPT can assist in this process. By providing a product link and a clear prompt, you can generate a professional blog post in seconds. While these tools provide a strong foundation, it is important to review and modify the text to ensure it reflects your unique business voice.

Using these tools within your point-of-sale software, such as Tower Systems’ Retailer, further streamlines the workflow. You can generate, schedule, and publish posts directly from the platform where you manage your inventory. This eliminates the need to jump between different websites and keeps your digital marketing integrated with your daily operations.

Building Authority and Trust

Beyond individual product posts, your website should include an FAQ page and a personal “About Us” section. These pages help train AI models to understand your business, allowing them to provide better answers when customers use AI-driven search. An FAQ page that addresses common customer concerns helps build immediate credibility.

Authenticity is your greatest advantage over large “big box” competitors. Using real photos of your team and sharing the story of your business creates a connection that an automated corporate site cannot replicate. Whether you have been in business for twenty years or are just starting, being transparent and helpful is what builds long-term customer loyalty.

Regular blogging is the single best free action you can take to grow your online presence. By committing to three or four posts a week, you transform your website into a living, breathing part of your business that works for you around the clock.

Specialist Art Supply POS Software for Independent Retailers

S

Running a local independent art supply shop involves managing a diverse and often complex inventory. From individual pencils and high-end brushes to large canvases and delicate papers, the range of products requires a system that understands the specific needs of creative retail. At Tower Systems, we develop specialist POS software designed for small, independent art retailers. Our goal is to provide tools that simplify your daily operations and help your business grow.

Streamline your art shop inventory management

Our software includes robust stock management features that allow you to track every item with precision, regardless of whether you can put a barcode on everything you sell. You can easily manage products by brand, medium, or artist grade. This level of detail helps you maintain accurate stock levels and ensures that your customers can always find the specific materials they need for their projects. It also assists in identifying which niche items are your best performers, preventing capital from being tied up in slow-moving stock.

Automate custom art kits and bundles

Creating curated sets for beginners or specific workshops is a great way to add value to your local community. Our software supports the creation of these custom kits and bundles with ease. If you combine various paints, brushes, and a sketchbook to create a starter set, the system automatically deducts each individual component from your inventory the moment the kit is sold. This automation helps you offer unique value to your customers and facilitates smooth workshop preparation without the need for time-consuming manual stock adjustments.

Encourage repeat visits with smart rewards

Building a loyal customer base is essential for a local art shop. Rather than relying on complicated points systems that customers often forget, our software allows you to print automated, targeted discount vouchers directly onto receipts. These can be tailored to encourage a return visit within a specific timeframe, such as a discount on framing services or a future purchase of professional-grade oils. You can also manage customer profiles to track preferences and purchase history, allowing for a more personalised service that resonates with local artists.

Synchronise your physical and digital storefronts

Selling art supplies online should not lead to inventory headaches. For businesses looking to expand their reach, our software offers native integration with major e-commerce platforms including Shopify, WooCommerce, and Magento. When an item is sold online, your in-store inventory levels are updated instantly. This synchronisation prevents overselling and ensures your digital and physical storefronts remain in perfect alignment, allowing you to manage one single source of truth for your entire business.

Reduce administration with integrated AI tools

Spend less time on paperwork and more time assisting customers with their creative needs. Our built-in AI tools can automatically import supplier invoices, significantly reducing manual data entry and potential errors. Furthermore, the software provides clear, human-readable insights into your business performance. These actionable insights help you identify which mediums are trending, making your future purchasing decisions more informed and data-driven.

At Tower Systems we provide human-delivered support from our team based in Australia and New Zealand.

Our software is available for a simple monthly rental fee with no long-term lock-in contracts.

We do not charge a fee per transaction, giving you the freedom to choose the EFTPOS provider that best suits your business. If you would like to see how our software can assist your art supply shop, we invite you to book a personal, obligation-free demonstration.

Good software fore Aquarium / Fish shops in Australia and New Zealand

G

Managing an aquarium or fish shop presents unique retail challenges. Generic POS software will likely not serve the unique needs of these specialty retail businesses.

From tracking diverse livestock to managing complex water treatment chemicals, the requirements differ significantly from traditional retail.

Tower Systems provides specialised POS software that can meet these needs.

Efficiency in a pet or aquarium environment starts with good inventory management. Our software allows you to categorise products by species, care requirements, or brand. You can track individual high-value fish or manage bulk items like gravel and decorative plants with ease. The system supports various barcode formats, making the checkout process fast and reliable.

The work we have done with pet shops and jewellers helps in this specialisation in our software for Aquarium / Fish shops

Livestock management is a critical component of any successful aquarium business. The Tower Systems POS software includes features to record specific details about your aquatic life. You can note arrival dates, supplier information, and specific care instructions. This ensures your team provides consistent, expert advice to every customer who walks through the door.

Maintaining healthy tanks requires a consistent supply of consumables. Our system automates the reordering process for fish food, water conditioners, and filter media. You can set minimum stock levels, and the software will generate suggested orders. This prevents stockouts of essential items, ensuring your customers always find what they need for their home setups.

Integrated e-commerce is another significant advantage. Tower Systems offers a seamless link between your physical store and your Shopify, Magento, or BigCommerce website. When a beautiful saltwater specimen sells in-store, your website updates instantly. This prevents overselling and allows you to reach hobbyists across Australia without doubling your workload.

Customer loyalty is vital in the specialty pet industry. The software includes a sophisticated loyalty module to reward your regular hobbyists. You can track purchase history to offer personalized recommendations or create “buy ten, get one free” type promotions for food and supplies. Building these relationships encourages repeat visits and strengthens your local community presence.

Safety and compliance are also simplified. The system can store safety data sheets (SDS) for chemicals, ensuring your staff have immediate access to necessary information. Additionally, the reporting suite provides clear insights into profit margins and high-performing categories. You can identify which areas of the shop are most profitable without sifting through complex spreadsheets.

Tower Systems is an Australian-based company providing local support and development. Our software is built to help aquarium owners spend less time on paperwork and more time with their fish and customers.

Our YouTube channel is a place of transparency in service of local small business retail. Our video content provides concise, high-impact insights that can be consumed during a morning coffee or a quiet period in the shop.

  • Maximising POS Capability: Most retailers only use a fraction of their POS software’s potential. Our videos demonstrate how to move beyond simple transaction processing to master inventory management, loyalty programmes, and automated reordering.

  • Seamless E-commerce Integration: For many brick-and-mortar stores, the transition to online selling feels daunting. We provide clear, step-by-step visualisations of how our POS integrates with platforms like Shopify, ensuring your physical and digital stock remains synchronised in real-time.

  • Business Transformation Insights: Retail is changing, particularly for traditional sectors like newsagencies. We share strategies on diversifying your product mix, modernising your shop floor layout, and identifying new revenue streams that align with current consumer trends.

Why Visual Learning Matters for Retailers

Seeing a process in action is far more effective than reading about it. Whether it is a demonstration of how to handle complex stock arrivals or a walkthrough of a new marketing report, our visual guides ensure that you and your staff can implement new workflows with confidence. This reduces training costs and minimises the risk of errors during critical trading periods.

Advice for small business retailers feeling stressed about AI

A

The pace of talk around Artificial Intelligence can feel relentless, overwhelming. Every day, there seems to be a new tool, a new “must-have” strategy, or a warning that those who don’t adapt immediately will be left behind.

We are living this ourselves here at Tower Systems.

If you feel overwhelmed by AI news and discussion, you are not alone.

While the technology is moving fast for sure, the core of your business remains the same.

Retail is still about people and the products and services they value.

AI hasn’t changed the importance of a friendly face or a well-curated shop floor.

If you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed, here are a few thoughts that may help. We have put these together based on our experience living in our own world of AI change over the last 3+ years.

You don’t need to do everything at once

The biggest source of stress is the feeling that you need to master every new AI tool today.

You don’t.

Plenty of what you hear is noise. This noise is often from people and businesses wanting you to spend money.

This AI talk often ignores the practical realities of running a local shop.

You have permission to ignore the hype and focus on your daily operations.

Look for the “quiet” wins

Instead of looking for a total business transformation, look for small ways technology can take a repetitive task off your plate.

Perhaps it is using a tool to help draft an email, or using AI to an opinion about your lease or some other management matter. These aren’t “scary” AI moments; they are just better ways to handle paperwork.

Now, for a pitch from us. We have easy to learn and use AI tools in our software ready for you.

Your humanity is your advantage

Large companies use AI to automate and scale, often losing the personal touch in the process.

As a small retailer, your “non-AI” traits are a strength.

AI cannot walk a customer to a shelf, share a genuine recommendation based on a conversation, or support a local community group.

The more the world becomes automated, the more people will value the authentic human connection you provide, especially locally.

Start with curiosity, not fear

Try to view these new tools as a digital apprentice. They are there to help you, not to replace the soul of your business.

If you see something that looks interesting, have a play with it when you have a quiet moment.

If it doesn’t click, put it aside. There is no ticking clock.

Running a retail business is already an achievement. Don’t let the chatter about AI take away from the pride you have in what you’ve built.

Take a breath. You’re doing fine.

Stop Being a Big Business Copycat: Why Your Loyalty Program Should Be Different

S

Small business retailers often feel pressured to mimic the strategies of major national chains. This is particularly true with loyalty programs. However, big retailers are often selfish in their approach. Their loyalty schemes are designed to benefit their bottom line first, often by extracting as much money as possible through complex systems that are difficult for the average shopper to understand.

The Confusion of Points

Most large supermarkets, hardware stores, and furniture chains use points-based systems. A certain amount of spend equals a specific number of points. The problem is that a point in one store does not have the same value as a point in another. This creates a “convoluted” experience for the customer, who has to mentally convert points into a tangible dollar value to understand what they have actually earned. These systems are designed to give customers a vague feeling of a reward without necessarily putting real value on the table.

The Power of the Discount Voucher

If you are a local independent retailer, you have a significant opportunity to differentiate yourself. Instead of points, consider using a simple discount voucher with a clear dollar amount. For example, a voucher that offers $5 off a customer’s next purchase within a set timeframe is instantly understood.

Shoppers appreciate simplicity and transparency. When a customer looks at a receipt and sees exactly how much money they can save on their next visit, they feel respected and appreciated. This approach moves away from the “copycat” mentality and creates a reward that is meaningful, tangible, and unique to your specific business.

Driving Repeat Business

Transitioning to a dollar-value voucher can be a “game-changer” for small businesses. Feedback from retailers indicates that this method brings customers back sooner and encourages them to spend more. It removes the friction of complex calculations and replaces it with an immediate sense of value.

By choosing a loyalty program that is easy to understand, you differentiate your shop from the big business down the road. You are telling your customers that you value their business enough to provide a reward that is clear and useful.

Flexible Loyalty with Tower Systems

Our Tower Systems software is designed to help you drive better outcomes for your retail business. Our software includes robust loyalty facilities that allow you to choose the system that works best for your brand. While we believe discount vouchers offer a superior experience for both the retailer and the shopper, our system also supports loyalty points if you prefer that model.

Beyond Generic: Why Vertical Market Software and AI Define a Bright Future for Specialty Retail

B

Local independent retailers in Australia and New Zealand face a unique challenges. It’s always been thus. Small vs big. Main Street vs shopping centre. Physical vs online. Capital poor vs capital rich. tenants vs landlords. We could go on.

Whether you manage a garden centre, a bookshop, a sewing shop, a produce business a jewellery store, a bike shop, or a newsagency, your business does not operate like a supermarket or a big business. You have specific supplier relationships, unique inventory requirements, and specialized customer service workflows. Using generic, off-the-shelf point of sale software often forces you to “dumb down” your operations to fit a one-size-fits-all model.

Vertical market software is designed to solve this problem. It is built specifically for your industry, embedding best-practice workflows and features that generic systems simply do not offer. At Tower Systems, we have spent over 40 years developing software that serves the distinct needs of specialty marketplaces.

The Power of Specialisation

A vertical market system understands the nuances of your trade. For a jeweller, this means the ability to print specialised labels with multiple sections—parts for the ring itself that will not cause damage, and sections for the packaging. For a garden centre, it means weatherproof labels that can withstand the elements outdoors.

Specialisation also extends to how you sell your products. Many specialty retailers do not just sell by the unit. Our software allows for selling by fractions, such as length or weight. Integrated scale functionality, which is NMI approved, is essential for spice shops, butchers, and health food stores. These are not “add-ons” but core components of a system built for your specific type of business. When your software handles these industry complexities, you are free to focus on what makes your shop different from the average retailer.

Practical AI for Small Business

While large corporations talk about artificial intelligence in abstract terms, here at Tower Systems we have integrated practical AI tools directly into our specialty retail POS software. This is not about futuristic theories; it is about saving time and improving your bottom line today.

We have made AI tools accessible and understandable.

One of the most significant advancements is AI-driven invoice processing. In the past, a retailer receiving a large shipment—such as a fishing tackle shop with an invoice of 200 items—would spend hours, or even a full day, manually entering data. Our embedded AI tools can now process that same invoice in a few minutes.

Unlike some systems where you must export data to an external spreadsheet or a tool like ChatGPT and then re-import it, our solution is seamless. It happens within the software. One retailer reported saving between seven and eight hours of costed labour per week just by using these tools. This represents a weekly saving of $250 to $300, which often exceeds the cost of the software itself.

Better Data, Better Decisions

The phrase “what gets measured gets managed” is a cornerstone of retail. However, many retailers avoid complex reporting because it is time-consuming or difficult to interpret. Our software now includes AI analysis for end-of-shift and inventory reports.

Instead of scrolling through pages of raw data, you can receive a concise AI summary. This summary analyses sales trends, looks for potential theft patterns, and even considers local weather impacts on your performance. It provides an “at-a-glance” understanding of your business health, allowing you to make informed decisions without needing to be a data scientist.

Protecting Your Business Asset

Choosing professionally developed, peer-reviewed software is also an investment in your business’s future value. Some retailers attempt to build their own tools using basic bot technology. While this might serve a temporary need, it creates a liability when it comes time to sell the business.

A new owner needs a system that is supported, documented, and maintained by a professional team. By using a vertical market system with built-in AI, you are building a scalable asset. We provide the help desk support and online resources to ensure that as your business evolves or changes hands, the technology remains a source of strength rather than a point of failure.

The retail landscape is changing rapidly. By leveraging software that is built for your specific industry and enhanced with integrated AI, you can move away from manual admin and spend more time on the shop floor where it matters most.

Stop Letting the Rain Eat Your Profits: The Case for Weatherproof Barcoding

S

For many retailers, the “great outdoors” isn’t just a view, it’s their showroom. Whether you run a garden center, a nursery, or a landscape supply business, your inventory lives in the elements. But there is a silent profit-killer lurking in the rain: unscannable barcodes.

When a standard paper label gets hit by a Melbourne downpour or baked in the Australian sun, it peels, fades, or simply disintegrates. This leads to manual entry errors, frustrated customers in the checkout line, and a nightmare for inventory accuracy.

The “Science Experiment” That Proves the Point

We recently sat down to put our technology to the ultimate test. We submerged a set of our specialised barcode labels in a glass of water for over three and a half hours.

The results? Even after being fully submerged, the labels were pulled out and scanned instantly using our standard handheld scanners. No fading, no smudging, and—most importantly—no delays at the point of sale. See:

How It Works: The Tower Systems Advantage

You don’t need a specialised, million-dollar setup to achieve this level of durability. Our Tower Systems POS software makes it simple by utilising:

  • Weatherproof Label Stock: High-durability materials designed specifically for outdoor environments.

  • Zebra Label Ribbons: A specialised ribbon/ink combination that penetrates the protective layer of the label for a permanent bond.

  • Standard Hardware: You can use the same label printers you already use for your “indoor” items, just swap the roll and the ribbon.

Why Durability Matters for Your Bottom Line

If a barcode doesn’t scan two or three months after you’ve put the product on the floor, you’re losing time and money. By investing in weatherproof barcoding, you ensure that:

  1. Checkouts stay fast: No more typing in long SKU numbers because a label is damp.

  2. Stocktakes are accurate: Easily scan items in the yard without worrying about weather damage.

  3. Professionalism is maintained: Labels stay crisp and readable, reflecting well on your brand.

Ready to Weatherproof Your Business?

Don’t let your labels wash away this season. Our team at Tower Systems is dedicated to helping specialty retailers solve real-world problems with smart technology.

Master Your Inventory: How Smart POS Technology Empowers Australian Specialty Retailers

M

The difference between a retail business that survives and one that thrives often rests on the quality of its inventory management.

For many independent retailers, stock is both their greatest asset and their most significant source of stress. The challenge is ensuring that every dollar invested in inventory is working as hard as possible.

Tower Systems has developed a suite of sophisticated tools designed specifically for local small business specialty retailers to master this balance. By moving beyond traditional, dense computer reports, business owners can gain the clarity needed to make strategic decisions.

Streamlined Operations from the Counter to the Where It Matters

A seamless customer experience begins with easy scanning at the counter. The power lies in what happens behind the scenes. With a Shopify integration that sees the Tower software act as a single source of truth, inventory levels are automatically synchronised across both physical shop and online store. This eliminates the risk of overselling and ensures that your digital “aisles” are just as accurate as your physical ones.

Data-Driven Efficiency with Automated Tools

Efficiency is further enhanced through the AI-driven importing of supplier invoices. This technology removes the heavy lifting and human error associated with manual data entry, ensuring your costs and margins are always current. This accurate data feeds directly into auto-replenishment cycles, which transform reordering from a multi-hour chore into a streamlined verification task. By analysing sales trends and current stock levels, the system ensures that your best-sellers never go out of stock.

Eliminating the “Drag” of Dead Stock

One of the most significant hurdles for any retailer is capital tied up in non-performing inventory. The Insights Dashboard provides immediate visibility into your “dead stock”—items that have not moved in months and are effectively costing you money in shelf space and lost opportunity. By identifying and eliminating this drag, you can clear the way for fresh, more profitable lines that resonate with your customers.

Empowering Success Through Free Training

At Tower Systems, we believe that software is most effective when the user feels confident and empowered. To support this, we provide free training for small business retailers to help enhance their stock management skills. Whether you are learning the foundations of a rolling stocktake or diving deep into advanced analytics, this ongoing support ensures you are getting the maximum value out of your investment.

Optimising inventory is not merely about counting items; it is about gaining the confidence to make decisions that secure a more profitable future. By integrating these high-level tools into a user-friendly platform, Australian retailers can reclaim their time and focus on what they do best: serving their local community.

Welcoming Access POS customers to our Tower Systems community

W

Access POS has offered software to newsagents in Australia for decades, as has Tower Systems. Our Tower Systems software is very different to Access POS as is our customer service.

We are grateful another Access POS customer has chosen to switch to Tower Systems.

How does Tower Systems compare to Access POS?

We’ve not used Access POS ourselves and so cannot speak to a specific comparison. What we do have is feedback on what people love about our software and our customer service.

  1. Embedded AI innovation in our software. saving time. Nurturing good quality business decisions.
  2. Regular software updates, evolving the software to meet evolving marketplace needs.
  3. Regular customer meetings. Offering free training and the opportunity to talk with other retailers using the software.
  4. Easy access human support. Access to our help desk is from 7am to 6pm each day and 7:30am to 3pm on Saturdays. Outside of these hours there is urgent care after hours coverage from our skilled help desk team.
  5. Awesome training resources. These include fresh and up to date training videos, an extensive knowledge base as well as a skilled ChatBot that does not hallucinate.

Software for newsagents built on newsagency experience.

When we wrestle building our newsagency software and as we evolved it over decades we owned and ran newsagency businesses. This unique situation played a key role in our position today serving more newsagents than all other software companies combined. Our own shops were test beds for us, and for newsagency suppliers.

Made and supported in Australia.

The Tower Systems newsagency software is made in Australia, and supported in Australia.

Price is not a value differentiator when it comes to software for newsagents.

Pitching software to newsagents on price is likely a cover for weakness or inferiority in our opinion. Better facilities that help a business achieve more, make more money and evolve faster can add way more bottom line value than software that is cheaper in terms of the rental or purchase cost.

Average software that is half (or less) the price of far more capable software can cost much more than software that helps the retailer make more money from good decisions and fewer mistakes.

AI is a big factor in newsagency software today.

AI is a game changer for newsagents keen to evolve their businesses to be more attractive and successful in a rapidly changing newsagency landscape. From the everyday like quickly importing just about any supplier invoice to providing actionable insights from any report through to the strategic like eliminating manual steps from in-store workflow to reduce out of stocks and driving a better bottom line.

We’re not sure if Access POS has AI tools embedded in their software. If you’d like we’d be grateful to do a side by side comparison with Access POS so you can see for yourself which better serves your specific needs.

The newsagency of the future is future-forward POS software.

Now all newsagency software is the same. In fact, software products for Aussie newsagents are very different from each other.

Tower Systems is committed to helping newsagents thrive in a channel facing challenges and a world of change. Seeing our software used by newsagents to pivot and thrive makes our hearts warm.

Check out Tower Systems today regardless of whether you use Access POS or not. call 1300 662 957 or email sales@towersystems.com.au.

Advice for gift shop owners: Finding the right path for your gift shop software

A

Choosing a point of sale system for your gift is a significant decision for any gift shop owner.   At Tower Systems, we understand that while we are a software company, our primary goal is to provide advice that stands up to scrutiny. We want customers for whom our software is a genuine fit. For small business retailers in Australia and New Zealand, the following guide offers a structured, professional approach to making the right choice.

If we think we are not right for you, we will tell you and explain why, and wish you all the best on your search.

Define your operational needs

The first step is to be certain of what matters to your business today. Look at your daily operations and identify what drives efficiency, profitability, and personal enjoyment. In a gift shop, this might involve how you manage diverse inventory, handle special orders, or track customer loyalty.

Do not only look at the present. Consider what will matter in the mid-future. Your software should be able to scale and adapt as retail trends evolve. This includes looking at integrations with accounting platforms like Xero or digital receipt options that modern shoppers expect.

Consider social and corporate responsibility

Reflect on what matters to you from a social responsibility perspective. For many Australian and New Zealand retailers, dealing with a locally based company is important. You may prefer to support a business that is Australian-made and supported, one that pays its fair share of tax locally.

Personal customer service is another factor. Decide if you value having access to local support staff who understand the specific nuances of the Australasian retail landscape.

Take ownership of the process

Don’t outsource the research. By managing the process directly, you remain in control and fully understand the capabilities of the tools you are considering.

Work at your own pace. Be wary of sales pitches that include “limited time deals” designed to make you act quickly. If a provider claims their software has specific functionality, ask them to show you. Anyone can say yes to a feature request, but actions speak louder than words. Only believe what you see demonstrated live.

Focus on value over price

It is a mistake to choose software based price. The right system is an investment that should deliver a measurable return. Ask yourself four critical questions when evaluating any POS software:

  1. Will it make the business more money?

  2. Will it save time for you and your staff?

  3. Will it increase the eventual sale value of the business?

  4. Will it make you happier in your daily work?

More expensive software may offer advanced features that deliver a far better financial return than a cheap or free alternative. The goal is to harvest value through better inventory management, smarter loyalty programs, and efficient postcode tracking to understand your reach.

Scrutinise the contract

Always read the contract thoroughly. In the small business sector, long-term lock-in contracts often favour the software provider rather than the retailer. A fair agreement should allow you to exit with 30 days’ notice if the software is no longer serving your needs. Avoid being trapped in a long-term payment plan for a system that does not fit your workflow.

The importance of retail-savvy support

Software is only as effective as the people who support it. Look for a provider that offers training and support from individuals with actual retail experience. In the gift shop world, understanding how to manage seasonal peaks and varied suppliers is vital.

Important local gift shop software needs

Based on our experience serving local independent gift shops, here’s what matters, from what they tell us:

  1. Easy and accurate selling.
  2. Time saving AI tools analysing business performance.
  3. Integration with Xero.
  4. Integration with Shopify for online sales.
  5. Easy comparison of supplier performance.
  6. Auto replacing ment to reduct stock outs.
  7. Good stocktaking tools.
  8. Loyalty facilities shoppers love.
  9. Easy importing of supplier invoices.
  10. Access to integrated EFTPOS for the bank of choice.
  11. Regularly evolving software.
  12. Local support.
  13. Being heard.

It’s easy for a software customer to feel insignificant or unheard. At Tower Systems we only serve local small business retailers, independent retailers. Every customer is of equal value to us. Every customer is heard.

Choosing the right software can significantly increase your profits, while the wrong choice can be a costly burden. Take your time, take detailed notes, and only select the system that feels right for your specific business. When local independent gift shops succeed, the owners, staff, and the entire community benefit.

Small business retail advice: How to optimise your Google Business Profile for better search visibility

S

Here we share updated advice on ensuring your Google Business Profile is working well for you. This is advice for local small business retailers.

Google Business Profile content is a key data feed used by artificial intelligence to produce search results.

For local independent retailers, maintaining an accurate and active profile is no longer optional. It is a core component of your digital presence. To ensure your business remains visible and trusted by both search engines and potential customers, follow these essential steps to keep your profile up to date.

Prioritise accurate core information

A critical element of your profile is the reliability of your basic data. Search engines penalise inconsistency, so your shop name, address, and phone number must be identical to the details on your website and social media platforms.

Pay close attention to your trading hours. Standard operating hours should always be current. If you are closing for a public holiday or a local event, utilise the Special Hours feature. This removes the “Hours may differ” warning on your listing. That small warning can create enough doubt to send a customer to a competitor instead.

Use authentic visuals

High-quality, authentic visuals help customers understand what to expect when they visit. You should aim to upload at least one or two new photos every fortnight. These do not need to be professional studio shots. Clear, well-lit images of new stock arrivals, fresh window displays, or your storefront are highly effective.

Avoid using generic stock photography. Customers value authenticity and want to see the real environment of your shop. Real photos perform significantly better in engagement metrics and help Google verify that your business is active.

Engage with customer feedback

A proactive approach to feedback demonstrates that you value your customers and take your service seriously. Make it a habit to reply to all reviews, whether they are positive or negative.

When responding to a less-than-perfect review, maintain a calm and professional tone. Focus on being solution-oriented. A measured, professional response often carries more weight with future customers than the original complaint itself.

Share regular updates

Google allows you to share updates directly on your profile through the Posts feature. These function similarly to a social media feed but are visible to people specifically searching for your services. Use these posts to announce new product launches, in-store events, or community initiatives. Always include a call-to-action button, such as “Learn More” or “Call Now,” to make the customer’s next step as simple as possible.

Customise your business attributes

Google frequently introduces new attributes that help customers filter their searches. Ensure you have selected every relevant option for your business. Common attributes include identifying as a small business, offering a wheelchair-accessible entrance, or providing in-store pickup and click-and-collect services. These details help your business appear in specific, high-intent searches.

By consistently managing these five areas, you provide the AI-driven search engines with the high-quality data they need to recommend your business to local shoppers.

…

We are proving this advice as we only focus on local independent small retail businesses. One way we try and help them thrive is by providing free advice, like this.

Specialised POS Software for Hydroponics and Indoor Plant Boutiques

S

The indoor plant and hydroponics sector has evolved into a highly specialised retail category that requires more than just a basic software or a cash register. Whether you are running a boutique shop in an urban centre or a technical hydroponics supply warehouse, the challenges of managing living inventory and technical equipment are unique.

At Tower Systems (https://towersystems.com.au/), we provide a point of sale solution that understands these nuances. Our software is designed to help independent plant retailers manage their stock accurately while providing the expert advice their customers expect.

Our customers are local, independent, specialty retailers. No franchises. No big businesses.

Managing Living Inventory and Varied SKU Units

Unlike traditional retail goods, plants and hydroponic nutrients often require flexible unit management. Your business might sell items by the individual pot, by the tray, or even by weight or volume for soils and nutrients.

Our software handles these varied units with ease. You can track individual high-value specimens, such as rare variegated varieties, using unique identifiers, ensuring that your most precious stock is accounted for. For bulk nutrients and growing media, the system manages fractional stock levels, so your inventory remains accurate even when selling in irregular increments.

Seamless Shopify Integration for the Modern Boutique

Indoor plant enthusiasts are highly active online, often researching specific species or equipment before visiting a physical store. Our world-class Shopify integration ensures that your digital showroom is always in sync with your physical shelves.

When a rare Philodendron is sold in-store, it is instantly removed from your website, preventing the disappointment of an unfillable online order. This synchronicity allows you to run a professional e-commerce operation without the double-handling of data, giving you more time to spend with your plants and your customers.

Technical Support for Hydroponic Systems and Repairs

For hydroponics specialists, the business often involves technical components like pumps, lighting systems, and PH monitors. These items frequently come with manufacturer warranties or require occasional servicing.

Our built-in repairs and service module allows you to track equipment history and manage warranty claims directly within the POS. If a customer brings in a faulty light or pump, you can log the job, track the progress, and notify them via SMS when the equipment is ready for collection. This professional approach builds trust and positions your shop as a true technical authority in the field.

Loyalty Tools for the Plant-Obsessed Community

Indoor plant shoppers are often repeat visitors who take pride in their growing collections. Our flexible loyalty tools allow you to reward this passion. You can offer points or cash and you have settings available to easily tailor the loyalty program for your type of business, even for one time only shoppers.

You can create tailored rewards that encourage frequent visits or larger basket sizes. You can also use the integrated customer database to send targeted advice or notifications about new stock arrivals based on a customer’s previous interests, helping you foster a dedicated community of growers around your brand.

Specialised POS Software for Independent Tool & Hardware Shops

S

Independent specialist tool and hardware shops operate in a high-stakes environment where product knowledge and inventory precision are the primary advantages over big-box competitors. These businesses provide the professional-grade equipment that tradies, artisans, and serious DIY enthusiasts rely on for their livelihoods.

Because the inventory is often technical, high-value, and subject to constant churn, a generic retail point of sale system is frequently insufficient. At Tower Systems, we have adapted our specialist retail software to meet the specific, rugged requirements of the tool and hardware sector.

Master Your Inventory Complexity

One of the most significant challenges for a tool specialist is managing a massive catalogue of SKUs that includes everything from individual drill bits to high-end power tool kits. Our Tower Systems POS software (https://towersystems.com.au/) handles this complexity with ease, allowing for sophisticated stock grouping and categorisation.

This ensures that when a customer asks for a specific grade of fastener or a particular replacement part, your staff can locate it instantly. Furthermore, for high-value items like pneumatic equipment or specialty saws, our integrated serial number tracking provides a complete history of the item. This is essential for managing manufacturer warranties and handling any future service or insurance claims for your customers.

Streamlined Repair and Service Management

Beyond the initial sale, many successful tool shops offer in-house sharpening or repair services. Our built-in repairs management module allows you to track a customer’s tool from the moment it is dropped off until the repair is completed.

You can log parts used from your own inventory, track the labour hours involved, and automatically notify the customer via SMS or email when their equipment is ready for collection. This turns a service department into a streamlined, profitable part of the business rather than a logistical headache.

Trade Account and Loyalty Features

Specialist tool shops also tend to deal with a mix of walk-in retail customers and regular trade accounts. Our software allows you to manage these relationships effectively through flexible pricing structures.

You can set up trade-only pricing or volume-based discounts that apply automatically at the checkout, ensuring your loyal professional customers always receive their agreed rates without manual intervention from your staff. This level of automation protects your margins while rewarding your most consistent clients.

Unified In-Store and Online Presence

Shopify integration is a vital asset. Or, if you prefer, Big Commerce, Magento or Woo Commerce). Your physical shop and your online store operate as one, synced real time.

When a professional-grade welder is sold in-store, your website stock levels update in real time, preventing the frustration of an online customer ordering an item that is no longer on the shelf. This level of synchronicity allows a local Australian business to compete professionally in the digital marketplace while maintaining the personal service that defines a local specialist.

POS Software Serving Bulk Food & Zero-Waste Retailers

P

Bulk food and zero-waste retailing is built on precision and sustainability. Unlike a standard grocery store, your inventory is fluid, and your checkout process requires specific hardware integration to remain efficient. Our Tower Systems POS software is designed to handle the unique workflow of “bring-your-own-container” shopping.

Here are some ways we can help bulk food and zero-waste stores thrive:

  • Integrated Scale Management. Our software integrates directly with retail scales, allowing for seamless “double-taring.” This means your team can easily weigh a customer’s empty container, label it, and have at POS deduct that weight at the final sale..
  • Fractional Stock Control. Selling by the gram, milliliter, or scoop requires a system that handles infinite decimals. Our inventory management tools are built for bulk, ensuring your “Stock on Hand” remains accurate even when selling in tiny or irregular increments.
  • Label Printing on Demand. If you pre-pack some bulk items, our system can generate barcodes and price labels that include weight, price per kilo, and “best before” dates, keeping your shelves organised and compliant with food labelling standards.
  • Eco-Friendly Digital Receipts. In line with your zero-waste mission, our software prioritises digital receipts via email or SMS, reducing paper waste at the counter while still giving you a way to capture customer data for your loyalty program.
  • Flexible Loyalty for Frequent Refillers. Bulk shoppers are often your most loyal advocates. Our tools allow you to reward them based on spend or visit frequency, encouraging them to return to your shop as their primary pantry source.
  • Serving Product Knowledge. Using our POS software for bulk food and zero-waste retail you can include product use and care details on receipts, to ensure customers have the information vital to their healthy enjoyment.

This isn’t just a basic retail checkout; it’s a version of our high-performance produce and health food software, refined specifically for the workflows of a modern zero-waste business. It’s built to be fast, accurate, and supportive of the sustainable values your customers care about.

Bulk food and zero-waste retailing is specialty retailing. It benefits from specialty POS software that leans into the specialisation.

Generic POS systems struggle when things get complicated. Tower thrives on complexity, offering features that “basic” apps charge extra for (or don’t have).

We also we give you a path to e-commerce. Our Shopify integration is wonderful and direct, ensuring that a sale in the physical shop instantly updates the website. For a specialist retailer, this prevents the “out of stock” heartbreak and allows them to compete with the giants while maintaining their local charm.

If you are looking for a POS system for your bulk food and zero-waste shop, consider Tower Systems.

Software for Camera & Photography Specialist Stores

S

Camera & Photography Specialist Stores often have needs beyond what traditional basic POS software handles. The specialty retail software we offer at Tower Systems could be a good fit for these businesses. Here are some areas where we can help:

  • Special orders. Manage special orders for individual customers, ensuring they are managed appropriately.
  • Tracking repairs. Whether you service equipment in-house or externally, our repairs management tools can help from within the POS software, tracking parts and labour.
  • Club pricing. You can offer members of a local photography club access to club pricing, and track purchases club members make so you can see the value to the business.
  • Infrequent shopper loyalty. Since you’re not seeing customers in your Camera & Photography Specialist Store daily or even weekly, a traditional approach to loyalty may not be ideal. The flexible loyalty tools in our Tower Systems POS software serve businesses with infrequent shopper visits well.
  • Auto inventory replenishment. Keeping on top of parts and products in-store can be challenging. The auto replenishment tools in our software make it easy while you hold final say as to whether to proceed with an order.
  • Import supplier invoices with AI. The AI tools in our software make it easy to import almost any supplier invoice quickly and accurately.
  • Compete thanks to AI price checking. The AI competitor price comparison tools in our software give you more information when you are working on the pricing settings for product in your Camera & Photography Specialist Store.
  • Offsite management. If your business is managed from another location, easily see what’s working and what’s not, efficiently, accurately and supported by AI insights inside the software.

This is not generic retail software. Rather, it is a version of our jeweller software that can see will serve Camera & Photography Specialist Stores well from our research on their needs.

Beyond the daily transactions, we understand that camera stores carry high-value, serialised inventory where precision is non-negotiable. Our software treats every professional body and lens as a unique asset, allowing you to track an item’s entire history, from the moment it arrives from the supplier to the specific customer who eventually takes it home. This level of granular tracking is essential for warranty management, trade-ins, and insurance purposes, providing a layer of security and professional oversight that basic “off-the-shelf” cloud systems simply cannot match.

Because we are a locally based, we understand local service.

Our POS system is designed to be intuitive, backed by easy to access training and support. We don’t just give you the tools to compete with the big-box retailers; we give you the data and the confidence to thrive as a local destination for photography enthusiasts, ensuring your business remains as sharp and focused as the lenses you sell.

Enhancing efficiency and accuracy in chandlery retail management

E

Operating a chandlery involves managing a unique blend of traditional retail and specialized technical services. Whether you are supplying parts for a weekend sailor or managing equipment for a commercial fleet, the complexity of the inventory and the specific needs of the maritime community require a robust management system. At Tower Systems, we have engaged deeply with chandlery owners and staff to understand the practical challenges they face daily – in our chandlery business software.

Initially, we approached the specific needs of this niche with a degree of skepticism. We wanted to ensure that our Point of Sale (POS) software truly served the practical requirements of the industry rather than just offering a generic retail solution. After conducting a deep dive into the sector and demonstrating our capabilities, the feedback was clear: the software effectively addresses the diverse needs of modern chandlery businesses.

Comprehensive inventory and SKU management

A primary challenge for any chandlery is the sheer volume of stock. Managing tens of thousands of SKUs, ranging from fast-moving consumables to highly specialized maritime equipment, requires a system built for scale. Our software is designed to handle these large inventories with ease. It supports high-volume, quick transactions through barcoding and touchscreen interfaces, ensuring that counter sales remain fast and efficient even during peak seasonal periods.

To further streamline operations, the system includes electronic supplier invoice support. By importing invoices directly into the software, businesses can reduce manual data entry errors and save significant administrative time. This is complemented by automated replenishment features, which generate purchase orders based on minimum and maximum stock levels, ensuring you never run out of essential maritime supplies. You’re always in control tho.

Specialised tools for maritime services

Chandleries often function as more than just a shop; they are hubs for advice and technical support. Our chandlery business software supports this by allowing for the creation of product use notes that appear directly on customer receipts. This ensures that safety or maintenance instructions are provided at the point of purchase.

For businesses that provide custom solutions, the ability to create bundles or unique product packages is essential. You can group related items into a single product entry, making it easier for customers to purchase everything they need for a specific task. Furthermore, for items sold by length, weight, or fraction, the software provides the necessary flexibility to ensure accurate pricing and stock control.

Streamlining quotes and customer accounts

Professionalism in communication is vital when dealing with trade customers and vessel owners. Our quote and invoice management system is flexible and fit for purpose. It allows staff to rapidly convert requests for quotation into professional documents. For vessels operating on tight port schedules, the ability to manage special orders and pre-orders ensures that the right parts are available exactly when they are needed.

Customer profiles within the chandlery business software can maintain detailed histories of specific vessels, including past purchases and technical specifications. This data allows for trade pricing profiles, offering pricing flexibility based on the specific relationship or volume of business. Detailed customer account management ensures that invoicing is accurate, helping to improve cash flow and reduce the burden of manual bookkeeping.

Modern connectivity and mobility

The modern retail environment extends beyond the physical shop front. Our Shopify website integration allows you to sync your physical inventory with an online store seamlessly. This ensures that your stock levels are accurate across all channels, preventing overselling.

For staff who need to assist customers on the floor or at the dock, Retailer Roam provides the option to sell from anywhere at any time. This mobility is supported by weatherproof labels, ensuring that stock stored in outdoor or damp environments remains correctly identified and scannable.

A partnership for growth

Our chandlery business software continues to evolve based on the advice and guidance of our customer community. We offer a transparent rental model for $199.00 per month, which includes software licences for unlimited computers at your location, help desk support six days a week, and access to our comprehensive knowledge base.

If you are looking for a system that understands the nuances of the maritime retail sector, we invite you to see a demonstration tailored to your specific needs. We can also connect you with other chandlery businesses currently using our software so you can hear about their experiences firsthand. Together, we can find the right tools to help your business operate with greater efficiency and precision.
