The noise around Agentic AI is considerable. It’s a marketing thing for plenty. At Tower Systems, we focus on actions, which speak louder than words.
While the technology sector discusses potential, our POS software is already delivering Agentic AI for local small business retailers.
Defining Agentic AI
First, it is important to establish a definition. The term Agentic AI refers to intelligent systems designed to take autonomous, goal-oriented actions.
You can identify Agentic AI where multiple tasks, which you previously had to manage individually, are rolled into a single workflow undertaken without effort from you. This facility in our Retailer software can be seen as Agentic AI in action for your retail business.
In our Tower Systems POS software, we have already delivered outcomes for small business retailers that fit this definition. We introduced our latest capability in this space early 2025 without fanfare or noise, included in a regular software update available free to our customers.
Agentic AI in Practice: Automatic Ordering
Our first solution in this Agentic area is the Automatic Order feature. This is on the back of many other AI tools released in our POS software. This Agentic tool we are writing about today allows you to schedule regular supplier orders using Stock Reorder logic.
Retailers can setup specific suppliers to automatically create orders for products using the Stock Reorder-desired levels process (min/max quantities) or by forecasting the order quantities based on sales records.
When Automatic Ordering is enabled and properly configured, Retailer will generate supplier orders for the relevant products at the frequency you specify. The system acts on your behalf to ensure the order is ready to be sent out.
How it helps you manage stock
The system offers flexibility to suit different supplier relationships and management styles.
Flexible Scheduling: You can set the frequency to Daily, Weekly, Fortnightly, Monthly, or Yearly.
Intelligent Forecasting: You can choose a ‘Forecast’ method that generates reorder quantities based on the sales record for the item and an estimate of what is needed for the coming period.
Context Aware: You can instruct the system to calculate quantities based on desired levels while accounting for stock already on pending or sent orders.
Once configured, the system takes over. The first order will generate approximately an hour from when the Auto Order is first activated. Subsequent orders follow your schedule.
Actionable outcomes
This is not just about saving a few clicks. It is about removing the mental load of remembering to check stock levels for routine items.
When the system generates an order, a notification appears in the Notification button (the speech bubble) at the top of the main Retailer screen and the POS screen. You simply click the notification to open the supplier order in the Orders Maintenance screen for review.
How to access this feature
To set up Automatic Order in your Tower Systems software:
From the main screen of Retailer, click on the Stock button or Stock Maintenance.
Click on Suppliers and Departments and select the AutoOrder tab.
Select your Schedule Type (e.g., Weekly) and Order Type (e.g., New or Add to Existing).
Choose your Quantity method (Reorder Qty or Forecast).
Tick ‘Active’ to enable the agent for that supplier.
By utilising these tools, you allow the software to act as a functional agent for your business, driving efficiency and ensuring you never miss a critical stock replenishment cycle.
